The Sleeping Prince
COUYON (COO-YAWN)
A Cajun French term used to describe a foolish person. [Cajun French Dictionary]
Jordan was an awesome person who has been on my podcast before, Season 2 Episode 5. I met Jordan at Dodger Stadium, I didn’t know him very well but I knew he was kinda the life of the kitchen when I would go and do sanitation walks. When we went to Staple center after baseball season, he was way more serious there because the atmosphere was one of silence and hard work. Though when we would be paired to do private parties, we [he] had lots of fun doing it and made me laugh a lot. Jordan was given the opportunity to travel to Texas A&M for the very first game of the season with a new kitchen, things went shitty for the crew and a sous chef walked out. They then asked me to go and help for game two which was very exciting for me. I had been to Indian Wells tennis tournament before but finally an out of state trip for a solid week. That soon became weeks of flying back and fourth from Texas to California. I was very impressed with the work done there and wanted to challenge myself, so I asked for a position which they were happy to give me with a solid pay cut to go with… I was a bit bummed but I get it. Before we left our first year Jordan was given the cajun name of Couyon, I was dubbed “Rougarou” [a legendary creature in French communities linked to traditional concepts of the werewolf. Wikipedia.] I was given that name because I was very silent during my weeks there but would lash out when it had gotten too far and I needed to defend my self. It was a great time, this video was taken my Third year there at A&M when Jordan came back to support, In the kitchen behind the couch was just a big enough spot to take a lunch break nap.
He is an awesome person with a solid heart but he does make some interesting decisions back in those days. Now, he’s a Head Chef with a child and lovely person in his life, living in the midwest. May God bless him.
